The Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club originally opened in 1919 as a 9-hole golf course, designed by the accomplished golf architect George Cumming.
The great Stanley Thompson, then a teenager under the mentorship of Cumming, went on to build a legendary career. His final course creation in 1952, less than a year before his death, was to add 9 holes to the Sault Golf Club.
Today The Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club stands as a prestigious member of the Stanley Thompson Society.
This course offers a variety of different holes that will make a round very challenging. The course is excellent for individuals trying to improve on their game. It is known for being the best in the northern Ontario area. A creek and several ponds come into play on five of the eighteen holes. The signature hole is # 17, a 201-yard, par 3, which calls for a slightly elevated tee shot over a water hazard to a large green.
